Ms. Christine Bourgeois

​Chris retired from her position as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Kalamazoo County, where she prosecuted cases of child sexual abuse. She earned her Juris Doctor from Thomas Cooley Law School in Lansing.  Preceding her legal career Chris worked in Personnel and Human Resource management for Haworth Inc. after earning a Master of Arts degree in Counseling & Personnel and another Master of Arts degree in Sociology.  With her SPADA certification she also worked as a substance abuse counselor.

PictureMs. Rosemary Gardiner

​ Rosemary Gardiner has recently retired from Family and Children Services.  During her career at Family and Children Services, Rosemary was a Clinical     therapist, Director of Public Relations and Marketing, Director of Development and CEO.  She has also served as an Adjuct Professor at WMU School of Social   Work and has worked as a school social worker in Kalamazoo Intermediate School District.  She is and has been a member of several local boards including   Kalamazoo Collaborative Care Project, Michigan Federation of Children and Families, United Way of Greater Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Area and Hackett Catholic Prep.

Dr. Alan Hovestadt
​Dr. Alan Hovestadt is a professor and past chair of Western Michigan University’s Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology. He has published widely in his field, and administered federal grants that have improved the training of graduate students.  Dr. Hovestadt has been President of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and has received awards from the Counseling Association, the International Association for Marriage and Family Counselors, and the  American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.  

PictureMr. Ted Lindberg

​Mr. Ted Lindberg is a Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  He held major roles at Children’s and Family Services for over twenty years, including Director of Families First, Training Director, Director of Family Services, and ​Director of Family & Psychological Services.  He is an adjunct instructor at the WMU School of Medicine and maintains a private practice. 

PictureDr. Angela Moe

​Dr. Angela Moe is a Professor of Sociology at Western Michigan University.  She is a past board member and chair of the Kalamazoo County Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Council.  She is also a founding member of the Kalamazoo Refugee Council, which meets regularly to provide comprehensive support for the several dozen refugees from Congo and Syria who have settled in the Kalamazoo area.  Her current endeavor is raising and training a dog for therapy work with child trauma victims.

Most Rev. James A. Murray
Bishop James A. Murray served as Roman Catholic Bishop of Kalamazoo from 1998 to 2009.  Ordained to the priesthood in 1958, he served many parishes in Michigan.  He received a licentiate in canon law from the Catholic University in Washington D.C. in 1964.  Within the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, he served on the Committee on Sexual Abuse for five years and helped draw up the Charter for the Protection of Youth and Young People.

Erica Schlau is a PhD student in counselor education and supervision at Western Michigan University. Erica has a Master’s degree in Counseling and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Oakland University.  Erica authored an article entitled, Bring Your Dog to Work Day:  What Animal-Assisted Therapy is NOT, published by the American Counseling Association in 2017.  She is a registered therapy team member with her therapy dog Noodles.  Erica has been interested in Trauma Recovery Associates for a while and made time to attend our Board meetings for several months.  Now we are delighted to have her motivation and experience on our Board.

PictureMs. Tasha Turner-Freeman

Tasha Turner-Freeman is working at Lakeland Health in St. Joseph, MI.  As the Program Director for Trauma-Informed Initiatives, she conducts trainings on topics such as Understanding and Coping with Traumatic Stress.   She engages the local community to learn more about trauma-informed principles and care.  Tasha has a Master’s degree in Clinical Child and Family Psychology, Roosevelt University.  She also has a Masters in Sociology and a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Western Michigan University.  Tasha resides in Kalamazoo and we are thrilled she is bringing her knowledge to our Board.

Dr. Jennifer Foster
Dr. Jennifer Foster is an Assistant Professor in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology at Western Michigan University.  She previously worked as a licensed counselor and taught in the state of Florida.  Her dissertation, An Analysis of Trauma Narratives: Perceptions of Children on the Experience of Sexual Abuse, received an Outstanding Dissertation Award.  She serves as an editorial board member for the journalCounseling and Values, and is an active member of several professional counseling organizations.

Dr. Andrew Atwood
Dr. Andrew Atwood is a volunteer consultant to the Trauma Recovery Associates Board.  He is a licensed marriage and family therapist and social worker who offers individual, couple, and marriage counseling and coaches people in leadership, spiritual growth, and establishing family businesses.  He was the co-founder of Fountain Hill Center for Counseling and Consultation in Grand Rapids and is an ordained minister in the Reformed Church in America.

PictureDr. Toni Gross

Dr. Toni Perior Gross is a licensed mental health counselor in private practice in Kalamazoo.  Her focus has been the treatment of those who have suffered post-traumatic stress as a result of childhood trauma.  She also lectures and teaches workshops on this issue. Dr. Gross was the first recipient of the Extra Mile Award presented by the Alliance for the Mentally Ill. She served as the founding Chair of the TRA Board.

Tim Fallon is President of TSI Consulting Partners, Inc., a consulting firm that focuses on strategy formulation, leadership effectiveness, alignment of organizational systems and structures with strategic requirements, and large-scale organizational change.  He has worked with more than 100 organizations over the past 10 years, including Fortune 500 companies, high growth mid-sized companies, trade associations, philanthropies, and community organizations.

Sr. Janet Fleishhacker, CSJ
Sr. Janet Fleischhacker is the Executive Director of CSJ Ministries, responsible for the oversight of the 29 nonprofit organizations  sponsored by the Congregation of St. Joseph. She has held many leadership positions with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth, MI, including President.  She has been the Client Services Supervisor at the Kalamazoo YWCA Domestic Assault Program. She is certified Domestic Violence Instructor and is certified in Spiritual Direction and Retreat Direction.

Ms. Rosalie Novara
Rosalie Novara is a social worker with thirty-five years of experience developing programs and serving children, teens, and adults in poverty, experiencing family violence, and/or dealing with mental health issues. Rosalie has helped to develop programs that address family violence, including the Kalamazoo YWCA Domestic Assault Program, the Kalamazoo Child Abuse and Neglect Council, and the Family Resource Center for sexually abused children.  Rosalie is currently a court-appointed Special Advocate for abused children.
